Comic Theorist Scott McCloud lecturing at RIT
“The smartest guy in comics” speaks to students and the community on September 18th.
On Monday, September 18th, the Rochester Institute of Technology will play host to the famed comic book author, theorist, and lecturer Scott McCloud. McCloud will lecture at RIT’s Ingle Auditorium, located in the Student Alumni Union, from 3.00pm to 5.00pm as part of his 50 State Tour, celebrating the release of his latest book Making Comics. The lecture will include an open Q&A session, with a reception and book signing immediately following. The event is free and open to the greater Rochester community.
Scott McCloud’s books Understanding Comics and Reinventing Comics explore the evolution of graphic literature, from early civilizations to modern works, and the semiotic interpretation of the medium’s form, function, and pacing. With his latest book, Making Comics, McCloud turns his attention to the production of comic books, including approaches to page design, character creation, and various avenues for self publishing.
McCloud’s research has been used in a number of academic and professional disciplines ranging from illustration to video game design. As a speaker, McCloud has lectured at MIT, Harvard University, Electronic Arts, The Smithsonian, Microsoft, and Pixar.
