i love this town!

I’m in a great mood! Basically the best way that I can describe it is walking into work I felt like Winston (Ernie Hudson) at the end of Ghostbusters when he throws out his arms and yells “I Love This Town!” Not that I’m in love with Rochester, but rather just with life. I just suddenly feel like I’m making a lot of forward progress on my time management (and without a flux capacitor Glenn… and I thought we’d all agreed that we’d never talk about the Plutonium incident again).

I’ll be at the new martial arts school on Monday and take some pictures to share. Speaking of that I had a great Martial Arts night on Wednesday. It started out pretty badly, or at least disappointingly. I made a lot of basic errors; things that I’ve been working to eliminate for a while but just keep nagging me. But I recovered and by the end of the night pulled out some of the best moves I’ve got from my bag of tricks. And that ability to recover is something that I’ve been working on for a while. Basically, it’s trying not to get weighed down by your errors. It’s well documented that Michael Jordan typically reacted the same way to missed shots as he did to shots he sunk. He simply acknowledged them and then moved on. The same is true for most successful athletes. And just about anyone with any ongoing successful performance. Traditionally I’ve done the exact opposite. I tend to live in my errors, and because of that I often don’t pay what’s going on immediately after them. And because of that you just mess up more. And you start one of those cycles like: “I take drugs so I can work harder so I can earn more money so I can take more drugs so I can work harder….” Breaking that cycle has probably aided me more than anything else over the last year in most of my endeavors.

The weekend is going to be hectic. Tomorrow I’ve got a lot of cleaning to do. Plus I have to work on some thing for the school and for the theatre company. And tomorrow night Drea is making dinner for me as a belated birthday celebration (did I mention she rocks?). Sunday it’s off to beautiful Cortland to train with Dan Inosanto (possibly the most famous martial artist and definitely one of the greatest martial historians alive today).

how fizzy can you face

Jenny and Tina have returned from the UK/Europe (which means Chuck and Aaron are back too!). And this morning they played Sugar Fairies and visited the cubicles of all the good girls and boys with gifts of Tea and sweets. And they proceeded to totally get me hooked on “Fizzy Cola Bottles” from Marks and Spencer. I’m going to attempt to exercise some self control and not eat all of them in this sitting.

um… So far its not going to well….

Ok I admit it, I have a weird thing for British candies. A few years ago I got addicted to Fruit Gums, which contrary to the name neither tasted like fruit nor had the consistency of gum. But they were strangely good. Even though they threatened to pull your teeth out with every chew. And being a fan of Dr Who, I’ve always wanted to try a Jelly Baby. Somehow I missed out on that when I was in England.

it’s official

Renaissance Martial Arts is moving to it’s own building. And it’s right around the corner from me. And we’re going to be up and running by Nov 1 (with an event going on there in late October). It’s also official that my life no longer belongs to me yet again. Between this, work and theatre I seem to be back to square one when it comes to trying to uncomplicate my life.

So what’s glaringly obvious is that I have to get better at working through my “to-do’s.” I’ve had a couple ideas about how to help that and now it’s time to give them a shot.

they say it’s your birthday

Wow, 28! Rock on. So far it’s been a great day, though I’m feeling a little under the weather. I’m catching up on work as I type this and continue to reign in my life. Both of which are going really well. Now if I just could make more time to blog :-).

down and back

I took a stealth trip down to long island. Thanks to traffic on the way down I actually spent less than 12 hours on good old LI. I got there at 4.30pm on Saturday and left by noon the next day. The occasion was a celebration of a good friends birthday and housewarming. I also had the chance to celebrate my brother’s Paul’s b-day. That’s something that is sure to get the goat of my other brother Glenn. Glenn’s b-day came before Paul’s and I still have yet to mail out Glenn’s gifts. This can only mean bad things in the comments field. In all seriousness Glenn, your gifts are mailing out this week.

In general, thanks to the play among other things, I’ve been really behind in things like birthday celebrations. This is one of the reasons that I think that I’ve been taking people for granted. I’m trying to get back on the path to appreciating friends and family (or rather letting them know that I appreciate them), but I have a long way to go.

In other news, and I’ll try to not be graphic about this, I think someone had fallen asleep in the men’s room at kodak.com. Either that person has one hairy breathing problem or someone was snoring in a stall. I dunno about you, but that doesn’t seem like the most comfortable place to catch some Z’s.
