Hey,

I know that I don’t have a wide readership, but if you know of any college students effected by the Hurricane who are looking for some way to continue thier studies, pass this info along to them:

If you have connections with college students unable to attend fall classes
at universtities in Louisiana & Mississippi, please pass this message on!
RIT is attempting (until 9/12/05) to help those students quickly get into
the fall session at RIT and return to their own schools as they reopen.

RIT Responds To Students Who Will Not Be Able To Attend College This Fall
Due To Hurricane Katrina

RIT (www.rit.edu) has taken the following steps in response to Hurricane
Katrina:

– As of Thursday afternoon, RIT has assisted seven students that were
intending to enroll this fall at one of the colleges that have been closed
due to Hurricane Katrina. They are asking RIT to help them maintain their
progress towards completing their college degrees at their college in
Louisiana or Mississippi.

– RIT is taking a case-by-case individualized approach in helping each
student address their enrollment needs, according to each student’s academic
advising, course schedule, housing and financial situation.

– RIT has limited enrollment spaces in undergraduate and graduate courses
(including Online courses) and will continue to assist students on a space
available basis.

– Although classes begin Monday, Sept. 5th, RIT can continue to help
students to enroll until the last date to add/drop a course on Sept. 12,
2005.

– Because RIT is on a quarter academic calendar, students will be able to
complete Fall classes prior to Thanksgiving. This will allow students
attending RIT ample time to transfer back to their intended college in
Louisiana or Mississippi this winter.

– RIT is making financial aid available to students with financial need
taking credit-bearing courses.

Please CONTACT OUR HOTLINE IMMEDIATELY to discuss enrollment options for
this fall.

Ok, so in perhaps the saddest or the funniest moment of the job hunt so far, I was told last night that I don’t have enough qualifications to work at a coffee shop. Oy. She was nice enough about it. Its a funny feeling to learn that for all one’s professional and academic achievements, you may not be quite ready to make a good cup of joe. Either that or they fear some type of epic espresso machine disater… “the goggles… dey do nudthing!”

I’ve also made a lot of progress in updating my resume, which was in sorry shape. This came out of one of those moments of realization. On Friday I looked at my resume, the one I was so proud of, and suddenly noticed that it sucked. I was trying to make the poor thing try to convery WAY too much information. So I’ve split it into four tighter and sleeker targeted resumes. I’m looking forward to see who will bite!

I’m back in Chicago for a few days on a quest for books. As I mentioned I struck out in Rochester and so I decided to take a road trip. Tomorrow I return to the Reg and to $1 Latte’s. Woo Hoo. And hopefully find the references that I’ve been looking for!

That’s the theme of my life. I’ve been trying to track down a couple books that I need for my thesis. So far I haven’t had a lot of luck. While some are held by the U of R, I can’t currently get at them. So now I’m checking the libraries of other local colleges. It’s a brave new world we live in, and most card catalogs are online. I do get jealous of today’s teens who have far more immediate access to information than I ever did. I think that, at least from the access to information standpoint and that’s help in learning, it’s a great time to be growing up.

I’ve put in for a couple temp jobs a google that a friend hipp’d me too. And I’ve submitted for a few more jobs. As Tom Petty sings, the waiting is the hardest part. Starry Nites jsut posted for more jobs, if I don’t get something within the next week or so, I’m probably going to go for that.

Before anything else, a big thanks to my brother Paul for pointing me to this phenominal blog entry. I’m sure that it’s either already huge or about to be huge.

  • A direct English translation of the the Chinese translation of Revenge of the Sith. It reminds me of a running futurist idea from Phillip K. Dick’s Intergalactic Pot Healer.

I also managed to make it into the local 20/30something paper: The Insider, there’s a shot of myself and Damir from Auragen at a Digital Rochester networking event.

Speaking of photos, yesterday I went for tacos with the kodak.com folks. LJC and I decided to take pictures of each other as our cameras are similiar models. What can I say, once the Kodak yellow gets into your blood, it doesn’t get out. Either way, here’s my half of the pair:

Ok enough with the posting and back to the social sciences work.
